Request a bot

Ask the Palloo team for a bot on the developer site, follow the review and reveal its token once.

When you need to ask

During the beta, the Palloo team reviews new bots before they exist. While that review is on, creating a bot in Palloo under Settings, Bots is refused (the API answers 403 bot_approval_required); request the bot on this site instead. Bots you already have keep working, and you change their settings and regenerate their tokens yourself as before.

GET /instance tells you whether review is on: bot_approval: true means requests go through the team.

Send the request

  1. Read the Developer Terms of Service. Your bot must follow them.
  2. Open My apps and select Log in with Palloo. The developer site only sees and changes your bots, apps and requests; it cannot read your messages or act in your servers.
  3. Select Request a bot and fill in:
    • the bot username (2 to 32 letters, numbers, underscores, periods or hyphens). Bots share usernames with people, so it must be free, and names that look like Palloo's own are refused,
    • the display name, as people will see it,
    • what the bot does: which servers it is for, what it reads and what it posts.
  4. Accept the Developer Terms and send the request. We record the version you accepted.

You can have 5 requests waiting at once and send 20 in a day; withdrawn requests count toward the daily limit.

While it is in review

The request page shows its status and history. We notify you in Palloo and email your verified address when it is decided. Until then you can edit the request (which starts the review again) or withdraw it.

If the request is not approved, the page shows the reason. You can send a new request that addresses it.

Reveal the token once

Once the request is approved, the bot exists and belongs to you, but it has no token yet. On the request page select Reveal the token once:

  • Palloo creates the token at that moment and shows it only this once. Nobody at Palloo can see it, and it is never emailed. Store it in a password manager or your host's secret settings right away.
  • If you signed in more than a few minutes ago, the site sends you through Palloo sign-in again first. If your account has two-factor authentication, Palloo asks for your second factor.
  • If you regenerate the bot's token before revealing it, the reveal is used up.

Lost the token? Select Regenerate token next to the bot under My apps, or in Palloo under Settings, Bots. The old token stops working at once.

Then continue with Getting started to add the bot to a server.

Removing a bot

Delete next to the bot under My apps removes it: its token stops working and it leaves every server. The Palloo team can also revoke a bot that breaks the Developer Terms; you see the reason on its request page.
